Funkwerk AG (DE 0005753149) was able to close the 2008 financial year
with a steady overall result and even managed to further consolidate
its market lead in key areas. The unfavourable general economic
setting notwithstanding, the specialist in professional communication
and information systems listed in the Prime Standard reported total
sales of ¤290.2m in 2008 (2007: ¤290.6m). The profitability - based
on earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) - reached ¤13.2m (2007:
¤14.4m) and thus exceeded the expectations by around 30%. This figure
includes one-off effects from acquisitions in the amount of ¤5.4m.
The consolidated surplus aggregated ¤8.2m (2007: ¤6.5m).

At 58%, the equity ratio in fiscal 2008 improved. The Funkwerk group
continues to be financed without due to banks.

Against the background of the current global economic crisis, this
satisfactory result of operations in the 2008 financial year confirms
a steady trend at Funkwerk AG amidst a generally rather difficult
market environment. The result was positively influenced by the
strategic reorientation of the company focusing on four business
segments.

The new Security Communication segment started successfully into
2008, with sales of ¤87.9m and an EBIT of ¤5.7m.

In Enterprise Communication, Funkwerk effectively completed its
restructuring measures. Its development toward becoming a
solution-oriented system supplier commenced successfully. Due to the
restructuring, sales here totalled ¤30.3m in 2008, with an EBIT of
¤-3.3m.

Traffic & Control Communication managed to achieve its full set of
targets, with sales of ¤122.6m and an EBIT of ¤12.4m.

Automotive Communication was hit hardest by the global financial and
economic crisis. Sales here suffered a significantly drop to ¤49.5m
(2007: ¤57.0m), so that the segment had to report a loss in the
amount of ¤1.6 despite immediate cost savings measures.

In view of the overall uncertainties of the economic situation and
the fact that the markets for information and communication
technology always react very sensitively to macroeconomic
fluctuations, it is currently premature, and may potentially be
misleading, to provide a specific forecast for the business trend of
Funkwerk AG in 2009.

Despite the general trend toward recession, however, Funkwerk AG aims
to continue its course for long-term, sustainable growth and intends
to come out of the crisis even stronger.
